 Ryan Van Mierlo, PE, Owner & Principal Engineer at Security Design Consulting (SDC). With over nine years of specialized experience in the security and detention industry, he leads SDC’s Production Group with a focus on technical precision and quality assurance.  Ryan’s career began as a project manager for a leading national security electronics and detention equipment contractor. There, he managed complex new construction and renovation projects, gaining deep expertise in the integration of security electronics and detention hardware. His diverse background also includes a tenure in commercial construction, where he contributed to the launch of Samsung’s flagship brick-and-mortar service center.  After joining SDC and earning his Professional Engineering (PE) license, Ryan transitioned into firm ownership. Today, he assists clients in navigating the complexities of detention facilities, courthouses, and correctional institutions. His comprehensive skill set spans security systems assessment, engineering, project scheduling, and construction administration, ensuring seamless project delivery from estimation to closeout.
 

 Lance Timmsen, Owner and Managing Principal, offers over 30 years of specialized experience in the security industry. He began his career managing design teams focused on physical and electronic security systems across diverse, high-security facilities. Following a decade as a senior associate for a globally recognized industry leader, Lance co-founded Next Generation Security, LLC. After five years of successful partnership, he split away and launched his own firm, Security Design Consulting, LLC.  Throughout his career, Lance has helped clients navigate and implement cost-effective, high-impact security solutions tailored to their specific facility needs. His expertise spans the full project lifecycle, including risk management, resource allocation, and project delivery for complex construction environments.  A veteran of the US Army Corps of Engineers, Lance served as a Captain and is a graduate of the US Army Officer Engineering School. He holds a BS/BA in Project Management and an AAS in Computer Aided Design, combining military discipline with advanced technical education to serve his clients.
